Ethics for Experts
Although the National Society of Professional Engineers adopted the Engineers' Creed more than 50 years ago, it remains current and applicable for today's engineering professionals. This article presents a discussion of the creed. The creed outlines professional ethics and responsibilities for engineers. The creed calls for engineers to dedicate their professional knowledge and skill to the advancement and betterment of human welfare. Engineers pledge to give the utmost of performance, participate only in honest enterprise, live and work according to the law and the highest standards of professional conduct, and to place service before profit, the honor and standing of the profession before personal advantage, and public welfare above all other considerations.
