The author's company, Eurokai K.G. aA., has developed a complete transport and handling system from hold of vessel to consignee and vice versa. The facilities at the Eurokai terminal are described. A fully automatic handling and stacking system controls the movement of containers while information relating to each container transfer is recorded by computer. The method of transfer and the automated dispatch and rearranging of containers are described. Information about the manning of the terminal and the shipping service is followed by an explanation of the LCL-operation; the container repair and maintenance facilities and the activities of Seaconfor GmbH are outlined. There is a summary of the Eurokai container operation system and the appendix covers the general description and capital cost of the terminal, the plant and equipment, container control and communication system, manpower, shipping service, throughput and general operational aspects.
