CONVENTIONAL AND MIXED HANDLING--WHICH CRANES ARE BEST? THE CASE FOR SHIPBOARD CRANES

The growing trend towards special ships for specific cargoes has generated a need for highly developed shipboard crane systems. They are divided into separate groups which are discussed in detail, namely, 1. the normal slewing crane; 2. four rope grab cranes; 3. the SB Type Cranes (special mast cranes); 4. gantry cranes for special cargo; 5. store cranes; and 6. hose handling cranes. The design, standard and safety aspects are considered as are construction, safety devices, performance and power supply.
