VII and the OmniAir Programme

In this article the author first outlines the main components of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (USDOT) Vehicle Infrastructure Integration Program (VII) and the role of the non-profit OminAir within VII. There are nine major factors that make up VII listed and subsequently described in brief. These include: roll-out, funding, PR, demonstration testing, deployment planning, institutional concerns, Proof-of-Concept (POC), system design, and prototype design. The elements, it is noted, are not exclusive of one another and are, on the contrary, highly interdependent. OminAir provides certification to the standards of VII from both the supply and operation side to ensure the robustness of all included elements and design. The Cooperative Agreement between OminAir and the USDOT is called the Research and Innovative Technology Administration’s ITS Joint Program.
