Land Use and Transportation. You Can't Have One Without the Other
Land use and transportation planning are inseparably linked. This article summarizes a recently-revised book on the transportation/land use connection that discusses issues such as how market forces determine transportation and land-use patterns, and how land-use policies can bolster rail transit. It also provides advice for creating a coordinated land-use and transportation policy. The book emphasizes highway travel, particularly the spillover effects of transportation on quality-of-life, but also discusses alternative transportation modes.
