Delivering Durability: New Concrete Pavement Manual Bridges Gap Between Recent Research and Common Practice
The authors discuss the "Integrated Materials and Construction Practices for Concrete Pavement: A State-of-the-Practice Manual" (IMCP Manual), a 350-page manual executed by the Iowa State University's National Concrete Pavement Technology Center with Federal Highway Administration funds. The IMCP Manual was designed, illustrated, and written for user friendliness with a wide audience in mind, including contractors; construction inspectors and supervisors; quality assurance and control personnel; and design, materials, and construction technicians and engineers. The IMCP Manual is integrated to provide guidance on why and when to conduct quality-control tests, as well as how to conduct them. It was developed as part of the Materials and Construction Optimization (MCO) Project that the Midwest Concrete Consortium initiated in 2003. MCO Project's focus is on implementing and evaluating promising underused or new procedures and equipment for concrete mixtures properties and quality control testing. An insert provides a comprehensive outline of the IMCP manual format and contents.
