Auditing Ground Operations in 2007
This article describes the development phase of the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA's) Safety Audit program for Ground Operations (ISAGO), launched in 2005. The program has two main aims – 1) to increase and improve safety in airport ground operations and 2) eliminate the redundancy of unnecessary audits performed by ground handling companies. To achieve these goals ISAGO is developing ground operations standards through Task Forces composed of representatives of both airlines and ground handling companies. The Task Forces concentrate on several areas, including airside, cargo, and terminal operations. Another important Task Force area is systems organization and management. ISAGO is also is concerned with risk management, using risk management methodology to identify the causes of accidents and safety incidents. Ground damage is also explored. Through the IATA Ground Damage Prevention Programme (GDPP), also launched in 2005, GDPP is discussed using the experience of IATA member Finnair.
