COLUMNS CONSISTING OF STEEL TUBES FILLED WITH CONCRETE: DESIGN AND USE

COLONNES CONSTITUEES DE TUBES EN ACIER REMPLIS DE BETON: DIMENSIONNEMENT ET UTILISATION

This article details the various uses of and design methods for columns consisting of steel tubes filled with concrete. The advantages of the system are discussed together with the different stresses to which the columns can be subjected (axial and eccentric compression, biaxial bending). Emphasis is placed on the interaction of the concrete core and steel casing. The influence of the long-term behaviour of concrete is also investigated. /TRRL/
