Seven Wonders Lead to the Eighth
This article describes the Gateway Bridge which connects the Palm Jumeirah palm tree-shaped manmade island off the coast of Dubai to the mainland. The bridge, which is comprised of 360m long and 26m wide North and South bridges, features architectural pylons that sit on top of seven piers in each direction. The pylons serve as homes for cast stone representations of the Seven Wonders of the World. In addition, the bridge has a cast-in-place box girder connected to precast concrete struts that engage cantilevers on both sides.
