SMALL SCALE ACTIVE EARTH PRESSURE TEST: STUDY OF THE BEHAVIOUR OF A REINFORCED CONCRETE STRUCTURE BEFORE FAILURE BY MEANS OF SOUND WAVE AND EXTENSOMETER TECHNIQUES

ESSAI SUR MODELE REDUIT EN POUSSEE: ETUDE DU COMPORTEMENT D'UNE STRUCTURE EN BETON ARME AVANT LA RUPTURE PAR DES TECHNIQUES D'EMISSION ACOUSTIQUE ET D'EXTENSOMETRIE

A small scale model was designed in the shape of a basin with metal sides. One of the sides consisted of a micro reinforced concrete panel. The interior was filled with fontainebleau sand. Stress was applied through plates following the axis perpendicular to the wall. Load distribution was not uniform. A study was made of: the crackling sound emitted by the sand; relations between concrete micro noises ans deformations; wall fissuration zones; localization of the origin of cracks; practical applications in the structural field. /TRRL/
