EXPERIMENTAL DETERMINATION OF THE INITIAL METACENTRIC HEIGHT OF AN EMPTY SHIP BY MEANS OF LIQUID BALLAST

In an inclining experiment the use of solid ballast is inconvenient when the ship is large and when the capacity of the quay-side cranes for handling the ballast is limited. Liquid ballast is more convenient in these circumstances. Formulae for a liquid-ballast inclining experiment are derived and their use is illustrated by results from a metacentric height determination for a 100,000-ton tanker. Order from BSRA as No. 49,260.
