The overload protection for cranes represents yet another applicaton of ASEA's unique Pressductor force transducer. The same size of transducer can be used in all cranes with a S.W.L. of 2 to 2000. An important feature of the overload protection is the ease with which the measuring body can be installed. It can be fitted to all types of crane. The measuring body consists of a cylindrical Pressductor transducer, which is inserted into a hole drilled in the centre of the shaft of the rope sheave. The transducer is positioned below the centre line of the applied load. After the transducer has been connected to the electrical equipment via a junction box, the overload protection is ready for test loading and trimming. Cranes have to meet stringent requirements and a crane overload protection should therefore satisfy still greater demands. ASEA's overload protection has therefore been designed as the strongest link in a crane. In addition, the overload protection has fail-safe functions. Cable faults and signal failures are indicated with the aid of relays. To simplify the annual inspection by the authorities or other checking, it is possible to simulate the load on the protection by electrical means.
