CORROSION RESISTANCE OF HIGH NICKEL ALLOYS IN SEA WATER

The author describes a number of applications of high nickel alloys which offer good mechanical and corrosion-resisting properties in seawater environments. Several new developments in high nickel alloys used in marine engineering are highlighted, and corrosion data for a number of these alloys are presented. Specific applications discussed include propeller shafts, hydraulic lines for variable pitch propellers, marine exhaust systems, sheathing on offshore drilling structures, as well as pumps and valves handling seawater.
