A TREATISE ON THE STABILITY OF ELASTIC SYSTEMS
The relationship between external loads and states of deformation in light elastic structures is analyzed. The change in physical state in a statical conservative system is studied to determine where in the critical range of static loading the system may be set into motion and to ascertain if collapse is imminent. Sensitivity to small geometric imperfections in three dimensional light structures is verified. The energy and equilibrium approach of analysis and their criteria are derived. The exact theory covering the analysis of structural plane and space framework as a special case leads to permit a reduction of all cases of plane buckling of prismatic members to five basic relations.(Author)
