CONSTRUCTION OF EXPERIMENTAL REINFORCED EARTH WALLS AT THE TRRL

The objectives which guided the framing of the research programme on reinforced earth retaining walls at the Transport and Road Research Laboratory are reviewed, and the development of the work through a progression of increasing scale and soil complexity is discussed. Details are given of an experimental wall constructed to 3m height in a pilot scale laboratory and of a further experiment currently being constructed to 6m height in the laboratory grounds. /Authors/
