A SEARCH AND RESCUE SIMULATION MODEL (SARSIM)

The United States National Bureau of Standards and the United States Coast Guard, in a joint endeavor, have designed and developed an effective simulation model of the Coast Guard's complex Search and Rescue system. The Search and Rescue Simulation (SARSIM) simulates the operational selection of the preferred SAR resources to respond to each distress client; clients' needs for Coast Guard assistance vary widely, both in type and amount. The paper describes the SARSIM model, including some of its more interesting and flexible algorithms, some validation data and representative results of simulation exercises.(Author)
