A Restitution Model of Two-Car Collinear Collisions

This paper discusses 2-car, collinear collisions using Newton's law of mechanics, conservation of energy, and linear constitutive law connecting impact force and crush. Two methods of calculating the mutual restitution coefficient are provided: 1) the first one is based on car masses and 2) the second one is based on car stiffness. A numerical example of an actual impact test is included.
