AUTOMATIC POSITIONING SYSTEM DEVELOPED FOR NEW GENERATION SEMI-SUBMERSIBLE LAY VESSEL

Lay vessels with advanced features, capable of substantially extending present offshore pipelaying limits, are of primary importance to the offshore oil and gas pipeline business. Saipem's pipelayer Castoro 6, now under construction, is the major component of an advanced system for submarine pipeline construction, satisfying technical requirements for safe offshore pipeline laying under hostile and deep water conditions. It will feature improved sea motion characteristics in water depths to 2000 ft. The vessel is a semisubmersible, carrying highly reliable equipment specifically designed for required duties, and substantial deck load. Operational capabilities and the automatic positioning system of the semi-submerisible lay vessel Castoro 6 are detailed.
