Handling Snow in Amarillo

This article discusses winter maintenance protocols in Amarillo, Texas, an area that is faced with major challenges of ice and snow along major trucking supply lines. The Amarillo district is located in the Panhandle, the only part of Texas that regularly receives snow and ice. This leads to problematic considerations in terms of budgeting, as Texas has 25 districts and they are all allocated the same amount of funding for snow and ice removal. However, the Amarillo district has received additional help from the TxDOT Maintenance Division and now has a number of turn-key vehicles for snow removal in addition to its older modified vehicles. The district currently has 35 motor graders and about 150 dump trucks equipped with snow plows.
