Passenger Services
Groups representing the interests of passengers have begun to emerge in the United Kingdom. This article describes the activities of one of these groups, TravelWatch. TravelWatch is a cross-modal organization monitoring the passenger operations of buses, airports, ferries and railroads in the southwestern portion of the UK. It is funded by transportation operators, local councils and a regional planning organization. TravelWatch examines and reports on how service changes or new services might impact passengers. The group has strong political and media connections and prides itself on its ability to pick up quickly on local issues of interest to passengers.
