Evaluation Method of Bending Deformation Capacity of RC Piles Under Confining Pressure in the Ground
This paper establishes a rational method of evaluating the ductility of reinforced concrete (RC) piles that are subject to confining pressure from the subgrade. The deformation capacity for RC piles is likely to be greater that that shown under atmospheric conditions. The authors propose a method for calculating this ductility. The confining pressure from sub-grade reaction is converted into an equivalent confining pressure from hoop reinforcements. Alternate loading tests for RC piles are conducted in a pressurizing soil-filled chamber. Using the proposed method, the experimental results are then compared with those drawn from numerical simulation, and the validity of the proposed method is confirmed.
