Coach parking

For UK coach operators, good parking facilities are an important factor influencing their tour programmes. Coach tourism is big business and coach travel is safer than car travel and ten times 'greener' per passenger mile. Coach parking charges influence tour operations. Members of the Coach Tourism Council have recently announced that they are to boycott the Isle of Wight following the local authority's decision to double coach parking charges on the island. Good parking facilities include a driver rest area, good head room clearance, toilet disposal facilities and parking enforcement to prevent lorries using coach parking areas. Westminster City Council in co-operation with Transport for London has made 24 bays in the Kingsway available for pickups of theatergoers. A key proposal in the Transport for London strategy was to set up a partnership to review coach parking facilities and terminals. The London Coach Forum was set up in 2002 to consider coach operations in London. A London Coach Parking Map was produced. The Coach Driver's Club (CDC) has been a strong lobby group for coach parking facilities.
