EXPERIMENTAL AND ANALYTICAL STUDIES OF BUOY HULL MOTIONS IN WAVES

The document studies and formulates a mathematical model for use in predicting the dynamic response of four particular buoy types, under various sea states, allowing the buoys 3 degrees of freedom (i.e. heave, surge, and pitch). The buoy hull forms are described, scale model test is documented, and mathematical models of buoy motion are developed assuming linearity. A comparison between theory and experiment is presented for means of validating the mathematical model. It is assumed that the forces such as current, wind, wave excitation, and cable response all lie in the vertical plane parallel to the buoy's longest dimension.(Author)
