Determination of lateral resistance of light-duty soldier piles in clay for expanded polystyrene (EPS) backfilled slip repair
This report documents an evaluation of the minimum pile embedment length for expanded polystyrene (EPS) backfilled slip repair. The aim of the project was to minimise the uncertainty of the pile embedment requirement where rock is present at shallow depth. A field testing program involving testing of two test piles similar to those commonly used for BPS slip repair was undertaken to assess the lateral capacity of the piles. The test results are in good agreement with available empirical equations (i.e. Broms) for prediction of piles with short pile embedment length. The findings of the field testing have been incorporated into VicRoads GeoPave Technical Note No.25 which provides general guidance for BPS backfilled slip repair. (a)
