Is Stuff Enough?: Railroad Museums Seek Relevance for New Generations

Until recently, preservation, or saving historic objects, has been the focus of most railroad museums. Now, museum administrators and curators are directing their efforts more on interpretation, encouraging their visitors to relate the artifacts to life today. Railroad museums that are profiled or mentioned include: Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City; Nevada Northern Railway in East Ely; the Smithsonian's "America on the Move" exhibit; the California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento; and Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg.
