Critical Speed and Limit Cycles in the Empty Y25-Freight Wagon

This article describes the modeling – via the use of non-linear equations of motions and kinematical constraints – of an empty freight wagon with Y25 bogies. The research uses non-linear creep forces with spin moment between wheel and rail. The authors have included modelling of all impacts and friction forces as part of the research. Along with solving non-linear equations in time domain, the research also shows solutions in limit cycles, saddle nodes, and critical speeds. The authors show both primary and secondary hunting in the responses of the wagons. Moreover, the relation between frequency of oscillations and speed is present, along with chaotic oscillations. Results note that stiffness in impacts affects calculation time and limit cycles.
