An Autonomous Vehicle for Video Surveillance of Indoor Environments

In this paper, the authors describe how an autonomous surveillance vehicle (ASV) is used for the surveillance and monitoring of indoor environments. The ASV is designed to perform classical robotic tasks such as navigation and obstacle avoidance, as well as tracking the movement of objects in indoor environments. Either the ASV or a remote operator is able to select the target object that is to be tracked. Using the tracking procedure, the ASV is able to maintain the object of interest in the center of the image and localize specific parts of the object in order to achieve recognition.
