Real Time, Real World: An Online Microscopic Traffic Simulation That Supports Real-Time
This article focuses on the benefits of online microscopic traffic simulation for supporting real time traffic management strategies. Using microsimulation, traffic managers are able to efficiently and accurately predict the outcomes of different scenarios. In this article, an ad hoc version of the microscopic traffic simulator AIMSUN (known as AIMSUN Online), and its application to a project in Singapore, are described. The article details the filtering and processing of flow data, the traversal matrices, and the scenarios simulation.
