HSL South Heads for Calmer Waters
The marketing philosophy behind the Netherlands' first high speed rail line, HSL South, centers on two principles, ease of use and speed. HSL service operator High Speed Alliance (HSA), a joint venture between KLM airlines and Netherlands Railways, believes that 300 km/h full line service will be quickly accepted by the public once it begins in October 2008, although it will be behind schedule. For HSA to test trains thoroughly, the start of interim service reaching 160 km/h on leased equipment, scheduled to begin in July has been pushed to December. Track and tunnel repair have also contributed to additional cost and delay. Despite this, HSA is confident that high-quality, easy to use services and facilities and high speed travel will be worth the wait and rival air and automobile travel.
