ENERGY CONSERVATION AND THE MOTOR CAR

This paper was presented at the Society of Automotive Engineers Jubilee Conference, Melbourne, May 1977. It suggests that the future design of the motor car should consider the following: 1) reduction in weight, probably by greater use of aluminium 2) reduction in aerodynamic drag 3) reduction in rolling resistance 4) increase in engine thermal efficiency 5) improved reliability and serviceability 6) gradual increase in introduction of electronic devices for power control. It is assumed that lead alkyls will be used to economically maintain present day octance number specification. /TRRL/
