Traffic Noise Analysis Protocol: For New Highway Construction, Reconstruction, and Retrofit Barrier Projects
Title 23, Part 772 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), titled "Procedures for Abatement of Highway Traffic Noise and Construction Noise", describes procedures for noise studies that are required for approval of Federal-aid highway projects. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) requires that State highway agencies prepare state-specific policies and procedures for applying 23 CFR 772. The purpose of this document is to present California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) policies and procedures for applying 23 CFR 772 in California. The following topics are covered in this protocol document 1) Type I: New Construction or Reconstruction Projects; 2) Type II: Retrofit Noise Abatement Projects; 3) Noise Documentation; and, 4) Liaison with Local Agencies.
