Predicting Throw Distance Variations in Bicycle Crashes

In bicycle-car crash configurations, there are varying correlations between throwing distance and angle of approach, point of impact, and impact speed. These were studied through bicycle-car crash simulations using MADYMO-developed multibody models. The simulations used a Hybrid III 50th percentile male dummy model, which is available through the MADYMO library. Parametric variations were performed on speed, angle of approach, and point of impact using crash configurations reported in literature. Simulations showed that monotonic dependence of throwing distance on car speed was observed in only some configurations.
