The problem of dealing with traffic pressures in conurbations is set in the context of the increases in traffic volumes and the economic situation outlined in the transport white paper. The problems affecting the public are outlined and the methods of protecting urban communities described. These include the management measures, and the use of wide area traffic control. The paper concludes by describing the effects of the transportation policy and land use problems in conurbations. /Author/TRRL/
