China Sets HS Target
In the next five years, China plans to add 17,000 km of new railway lines, of which 7,000 will be dedicated high speed passenger lines. China also expects to upgrade 13,000 km of existing rail service to 200 km an hour capacity through electrification. Some high speed trains, which will enhance both passenger and freight service, may be able to reach maximum speeds of 350 km an hour. The author discusses new rail line destinations and methods being used to reach construction goals.
