CALCRETE WEARING COURSES FOR UNPAVED ROADS

The paper presents a guide to the performance of calcrete wearing courses for unpaved road construction. Test results are discussed from the use of sample calcretes as gravel and sand-clay wearing courses for unpaved roads in South Africa. Consideration is given to particle-size distribution, soil constants and aggregate strength. It is concluded that correct selection of material and its compaction with water are necessary to ensure a hard wearing surface and to alleviate dust problems. /TRRL/
