Moving parts

This article describes the aftersales logistics operations for car manufacturers Nissan and Renault in the UK. Following a global alliance between the two companies, their aftersales parts supply was integrated on one site from which deliveries are dispatched in five waves of transport each night. Both companies have experienced sales volume growth with corresponding parts demand, but the centre has seen gains in efficiency and service levels. Better service delivery of stock orders has reduced the need for emergency orders which use more intensive and urgent warehouse attention, and also improves predictability in transport planning. Frequent meetings are held with transport operator TNT to discuss requirements, and the possibility of working with other transport users to improve overall efficiency is being considered. (A)
