Oporto: from the rundown to the revitalised
This article describes improvements to the public transport network in Oporto, Portugal. The Metro do Porto has been extended south over the Douro river and extensions are planned for the lines B, C and D. Details are given of the layout of lines A-E, the crossovers, the extensions, the revitalisation of the city alongside the tramway and the service over the Dom Luis high-level bridge. Improvements made to the STCP heritage street tramway are discussed. The author describes his visit to Oporto and the improvements made to public transport in the city over the last 30 years and the potential for further improvements to the tramway. (A)
