INEXPENSIVE PEDESTRIAN UNDERPASSES IN SHEET PILE CONSTRUCTION

KOSTENGUENSTIGE FUSSGAENGERUNTERFUEHRUNGEN ALS SPUNDWAND-VERBUNDBAUWERKE

The application of sheet pile walls as permanent support elements in the construction of pedestrian underpasses has been shown to be extremely economical. It is a condition, however, that the building area is suitable for pile driving and completely free from obstructions and services. By way of initial concreting of a surfacing slab without formwork and subsequent excavation in the finished profile, restriction to single lane traffic can be reduced to 4 weeks. The rate of corrosion of the steel without treatment amounts to about 0.01 mm per year in a soil of gravel and sand and is already taken care of in the choice of the profile. /TRRL/
