METHODES GRANULOMETRIQUES - TECHNIQUES ET INTERPRETATIONS

The author discusses methods applicable to loose sediments or consolidated but easily dissociable sediments. The method recommended for fine fractions is that of the andreasen pipette; a brief mention is made of areometer methods. For coarse fractions, emphasis is placed on sieving methods and recent hydraulic methods, the procedure of which is described. Part of the book deals with methods of interpreting the most commonly used grading data. Other methods of interpretation, very different from conventional techniques, are also outlined. Data are presented on two methods and their variations; (1) linear moment method; (2) method of grading evolution indices. A description is given of the attempts made at applying factorial analysis to the interpretation of grading data. An appendix gives additional information on the grading use of the optical observations of thin plates; a paragraph is devoted to simple linear correlations and regression. Numerical tables, tables, formulae and hp 65 programs are also appended. /TRRL/
