Electric Drives of Traction Rolling Stocks with AC Motors
In this paper, the authors examine the variation of circuit design of the electric drives of traction rolling stock when AC electric machines are used to replace traditional DC electric machines. The authors first describe the structure and control system of the electric drives of modern traction rolling stock. An autonomous three-phase power supply system and algorithms for the ACT traction motors are developed, leading to engine characteristic that match the tractive force through voltage frequency and current inverters. A mathematical model is used to justify the engine torque and tractive force control. The authors also present graphs depicting ways of changing the electrical parameters of an asynchronous motor with a squirrel cage rotor.
