A METHOD FOR DETERMINING IN SIX HOURS, THE INITIAL AND FINAL STRENGTH OF CEMENT

CONTRIBUCION A LA DETERMINACION EN LAS RESISTENCIAS INICIALES Y FINALES DE LOS CEMENTOS EN SEIS HORAS

A method is described for determining in less than 6 hours, the initial (24 hr) and final (28 day) strength of cements. The standard mortar is placed in a bath of boiling water for a length of time which varies according to the quality of the sample. Half the samples are thus treated and strengths equivalent to those from the 24 hr standard test are obtained. The remaining half of the samples are placed in a steam chamber for a period which varies according to the degree of fineness, the percentage of clinker, etc giving strengths corresponding to those at 28 days. Equal precision is obtained for expansive as for normal cements. The time necessary for obtaining initial strengths increases with the blaine specific surface. Waiting time, before and after the treatments, is a contributory factor to error in this method. /TRRL/
