Traffic Management in Wales

This article discusses efforts of the Welsh Assembly Government to pro-actively employ Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) on the United Kingdom's road network. Regional management, in both North and South Wales, is achieved via Traffic Management Centres (TMCs). These 24-hour facilities are dedicated to closely working with the police and local authorities in order to promote better management and safer use of the road network. The article discusses how TMCs operate, including their use of such ITS methods as closed circuit television (CCTV), automatic incident detection, informatics, and communication systems.
