THE EXHAUST FUMES TEST CENTRE FOR MOTOR VEHICLES IN THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY. CONTRIBUTION TOWARDS ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

DIE ABGASPRUEFSTELLE FUER DIE KRAFTFAHRZEUGE IN DER BUMDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND-IHR BEITRAG ZUM UMWELTSCHUTZ

The exhaust fumes test centre took part in the work involved in the preparatory stages of the legislation on exhaust fumes by carrying out a large number of tests. Included in the range of activities of such a test centre is the testing of exhaust emission during different operating conditions, the testing of carbon monoxide content of the exhaust fumes emitted when the vehicle is idling and the testing of fume emission from the crankshaft housing. In order to carry out such tests, large test floors and a heated room are required. The exhaust fumes test centre will continue to play a decisive role in environment protection in the coming years. The boundary value for permissible noxious emission will be reduced still further, for it is the purpose of the laws relating to exhaust emission to reduce the negative effect of motor vehicles on the environment. /TRRL/
