EIGHTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON SOIL MECHANICS AND FOUNDATION ENGINEERING - MOSCOW - AUGUST 1973. PRESENTATION OF SOME CHARACTERISTIC ELEMENTS OF THE SESSIONS OF THE EIGHTH INTERNATIONAL SOIL MECHANICS CONFERENCE

HUITIEME CONGRES INTERNATIONAL DE MECANIQUE DES SOLS ET DE TRAVAUX DE FONDATIONS - MOSCOU - AOUT 1973. PRESENTATIONS DE QUELQUES ELEMENTS CARACTERISTIQUES DES SEANCES DU HUITIEME CONGRES INTERNATIONAL DE MECANIQUE.

This supplement is devoted to the eighth international conference on soil mechanics and foundation engineering which took place in Moscow. Four plenary sessions and eight special sessions, presented in this work, enabled the 1500 delegates to the conference to have an overall view of the state of research and knowledge in this field. Five papers from the "laboratoires des ponts et chaussees", which had not hitherto been widely published are presented here. Of particular interest are: the self-drilling pressiometer; prediction of settlement by pressiometer and observations; in-situ measurements of settlement under embankments and structures. The tassometer (for measuring settlement); measurement of stresses under embankments and structures; jack settlement amplifier to measure settlement under structures; the influence of the speed of trains on the deflections of tracks in peaty areas. /TRRL/
