3-D Distinct Element Modeling for Viscoelastic Asphalt Mastics
Based upon the micromechanical behavior of asphalt mastics, a viscoelastic model of asphalt mastics was developed using a discrete element modeling approach in this paper. The analytical solution is provided in order to compare the discrete element modeling solution. In the discrete element modeling approach, the Burgers contact model was employed and the uniaxial creep tests were simulated. In the simulation, three kinds of loading conditions were used. The constitutive equation based upon the Burgers model was introduced. The solutions under the creep and relaxation tests were given, respectively. At the end of this paper, the results based on the numerical simulations and analytical solutions were compared. It was found that the results from the two approaches agree with each other very well.
