DETERMINING THE PLASTER AND HEMIHYDRATE CONTENTS OF PORTLAND CEMENTS

CONTRIBUCION A LA DETERMINACION DE LOS CONTENIDOS DE YESO Y HEMIHIDRATO EN LOS CEMENTOS PORTLAND.

In order to avoid the "false setting" of portland cement it is necessary to know the degree of dehydration of the plaster. A method of differential thermal analysis has been developed in which each form of calcium sulphate is identified by the areas of the endothermic peaks on the dehydration thermograms. In this study, in order to obtain a better differentiation, silicates were removed by the application of methanol diluted salicylic acid. Double differential thermal analysis was also used to eliminate the influence of the nature of the plaster and the errors resulting from instrumental analysis. /TRRL/
