THE SAFETY SECTION - A NEW SAFETY FENCE

DAS SICHERHEITSPROFIL - EINE NEUE LEITEINRICHTUNG

A highway safety fence constructed of concrete in the shape of a specially cross-sectioned low wall is introduced, which is still not widely distributed in Europe. Experience from many years' usage in the United States, and also in France, shows that this safety wall is capable of safely impeding a vehicle deviating from the carriageway. Most of the vehicles, which remain capable of service, are guided back to their carriageway, and personal injury and vehicle damage are drastically reduced. Even heavy goods vehicles cannot cross these safety installations. The advantage for the highway authority lies in the fact that although the erection costs are the same as for other systems, maintenance costs are minimal. /TRRL/
