CONCERNING THE TENSILE STRENGTH OF PUMICE STONE CONCRETE

CONTRIBUCION AL ESTUDIO DE LA RESISTENCIA A TRACCION EN HORMIGONES DE PIEDRA POMEZ

The article describes tests on pumice stone concretes and the measurement of tensile strength in the Brazilian test. The tests included variations in the type and size of aggregates, age, aggregate-paste adhesion, and the percentage of aggregates. A comparison of the results with various mathematical models showed good correlation with the linear model in which, if the aggregate-mortar adhesion is taken as perfect, the strength of the concrete is then a function of the aggregate, the paste and the percentage of aggregate. Tests with grease impregnated aggregates (no adhesion) fit in with the linear model. /TRRL/
