COMPULSORY WEARING OF SEAT BELTS - A WORLD WIDE INTERIM REPORT

GURTENTRAGPFLICHT - EINE WELTWEITE ZWISCHENBILANZ

The compulsory wearing of seat belts in various countries allowed scientific investigations to be carried out on the effect of protection given by seat belts on the broadest basis. Members of the International Association for Accident and Traffic Medicine, IAATM, met between 31.1.1977 and 4.2.1977 in Melbourne at the occasion of the 6 th IAATM conference, for the purpose of exchanging results and lessons learned. The author provides a comprehensive survey on the results of various investigations regarding the efficiency of several restraint systems for adults and children, on injuries which are due to seat belts, as well as possibilities for improving on present restraint systems. /TRRL/
