COMPARISON OF ELECTRIC PROPULSION METHODS FOR ROAD VEHICLES

VERGLEICH ELEKTRISCHER ANTRIEBE FUER STRASSENFAHRZEUGE

Because of the present low energy storage potential electric vehicles may only be considered for use as a means of transport within a restricted area. An investigation is described into the possible propulsion methods which will lead to a reduction in costs compared with internal combustion motors. For the appraisal of the propulsions under consideration, behaviour under acceleration is referred to, because for each propulsion system there are linked advantages in energy use and disadvantages of acceleration time or vice versa. With reference to the vehicles which were the subject of practical trials, some with hydrodynamic transformers, others with change-speed gears and mechanical clutches, the control assembly and safety controls are displayed. /TRRL/
